Software Policy
Control rooms and control room software are long term investments, 10 years or more, and a major concern for the client is the long term support for both software and hardware.
Although we are the owners of the UK Watch Opus Professional © brand, our software designer, Grovedime Ltd, writes the software in-house using Borland C++ Builder and second sources software development as appropriate. As result a minimum of two companies are familiar with the Opus Professional © software and are able to offer software and hardware support. There is no agreement, nor will their ever be, preventing Grovedime from providing technical support for UK Watch Opus Professional © software independently.
The UK Watch Opus Professional © software source code and the compilers and third party software are available on CD to all UK Watch Ltd and Grovedime Opus Professional © clients. This software source can be obtained by e-mailing or writing to UK Watch Limited or Grovedime and agreeing to a simple non-disclosure agreement which in essence prohibits the use of this code for commercial purposes, and may only be used for the maintenance or extension of existing installations.
This ensures that you, the buyer, retains absolute control over your own systems by allowing you to outsource maintenance and upgrades to a third party. This is a VERY important agreement as many similar products attempt to forbid outsourcing of alterations due to restrictive software policies and IP issues which can lead to threatened legal action, effectively tying you, the buyer, into the installer for the life of the software. This effectively means that you will have to delete the software if you wish to change maintainers. Not the case with Opus Professional ©. |
